Simple 5-Steps Guide: I Love My Job But I Hate My Boss

March 1, 2020

Guide

This is an unfortunate situation to be in, particularly nowadays when finding a job you enjoy doing is a difficult thing. I can feel your stress and your worry because you do not want to leave only because you are constantly bullied by your toxic boss. You love your job, your performance is outstanding but yet, you think about quitting.

Why is this so difficult?

You think about quitting, but then your brain is stopping you from doing it. Thoughts like my coworkers are great, this job is giving me so many opportunities, maybe that would not be the case on my next job – all these things are not helping you finding a clear way from a difficult situation.

What should you do in this situation?

STEP 1: Make a Decision

The first step is making a decision. Though leaving a job may seem like the best solution for retiring a bad boss, that doesn’t mean that it’s always the best plan for your career. The only factor for which you should consider staying is the opportunities you get from this job. If you have none and you are staying only because you are feeling comfortable with the job, you became used to it or you enjoy the company of your colleagues – that is probably not the great decision. In that case, the best decision is to leave.

Step 2: Considering All The Factors

Let’s elaborate more on deciding factors.

There are two primary drivers of behavior: practical elements of a job (such as pay, commute and paid time off), and personal experiences (such as interpersonal relationships and engagement). And of the two, personal experiences may carry more weight than you may think: For instance, 58 percent of workers say that they’d stay at jobs with lower salaries if that meant working for a great boss.

So, what should you do?

The decision to stay or leave must be totally your decision. Do not listen to your family or friends advising you because every person has a totally different system of values, and the best decision, in this case, is variable. It depends from person to person. Sit down, grab a piece of paper and write down all the pros and cons of your job. This exercise is great because it forces your brain to work on all the possible solutions.

Step 3: Stick To Your Decision

When you finally got all the pros and cons, you need to make a decision and stick to it.

Whatever your job is, it is not a big deal to quit. You need to remember that. We, humans, often forget that we are not the only one who is going through whatever the situation is. There are a lot of people out there, having the same issue. Some of them decide to quit, some to stay. There is no right or wrong answer, just staying true to your beliefs and decisions.

Stick to your decision after going through all the options, do not doubt too much because you will make even bigger agony to yourself.

Step 4: Make A Strategy

Ok, now we have done the biggest part of the work. We have listed the pros and cons, made a decision and decided to stick to it. The next step is to make a detailed strategy on how to make it until the end (no matter what have you decided).

In case you have decided to stay, you will need a hell of a good plan to survive in that office with your toxic boss. This is not going to be easy but it is not impossible.

On the other hand, even if you decided to leave, you will need a plan on how to do it and what to do next.

So, as you may see, in both cases you will need a great strategy if you want to be successful. This is the process many businessmen use when fighting some kind of problem. It is a productive way and there is probably no better guide on what to do in these cases than this.

Step 5: Be Flexible

Ok, you have done everything according to the guide so far but you still feel like something is wrong. The most important thing is to remember that things will never go according to the plan you made. You have to be flexible.

Maybe you decided to quit your job and find a new one, but you constantly fail to land a job. This is ok, you must count on these things. Something will always come up. Be prepared, be flexible but always have your final goal in mind. Your goal is your objective, just be creative in creating the paths to it.
